Plants are just like us.. just slower

I am a vegetarian whenever possible (which I admit, is a very weird form of vegetarianism) i.e., I am totally vegetarian when I am at my parents' place, but I can eat anything else when I am elsewhere. (If it doesn't bite you back, eat it!) Well, plants are no different from animals - they are alive too, they just don't move as much. Or talk. I don't know if any plant can make sounds, but they definitely move just like us animals. Only a lot slower. Come to think of it, there are animals that move slower than these plants!

1) Even I used to make this "excuse" when I was a non-veg.
Yes, both are life. But there is a difference Plants have got no centralised nervous system which is found in "advanced" (if i can use this term) forms of life - animals (and insects etc).

I believe Plants' stimulus-response system is less advanced than animals. It is "primitive".

Yes even plants do feel "pain" , but I believe it is much less than in animals.

So eating plants is a "little" better than eating animals. Even then it is good if you eat just as much is necessary for the purpose of propagating one's life (well ... add little extra for enjoyment if one wants).

(NOTE - I am not trying to argue. I am telling my opinions before (when i was a nonveg) and now (veg). (Because before I had felt exactly as you have said now. Also note that I dont have any "scientific proofs" to back my opinions - it is based on my belief, intuition and logic [which may be wrong] .).

2) BTW I read your blog once in a while and i believe it is "above average quality". The topics are interesting.

Dear Anonymous,
I agree with you completely (except the part about my blog being 'above average quality' - I personally think it's mediocre) I believe that being vegetarian is definitely a better option. However I find it difficult to eat the 'vegan' food out here since it usually means salads and other forms of uncooked vegetables. At home, my mom makes the most unbelievably delicious Indian vegetarian food and I never even feel like indulging in anything else. I am trying to learn her secret recipes one dish at a time now :-)

Dear Anil,

>> ... out here since it usually means salads and other forms of uncooked vegetables <<

Hmm .. thats understandable to some extent. For people who are used to spicy and tasty veg food in India it is not easy to eat like this.

Also ur use of word "vegan" was interesting :-)

[Incidentally I know of some people who went to US and they remained strictly vegetarian by cooking their own food. If I get a chance to go to US let me see if I will be able to adjust :-) ]
