Good times in Phoenix: Rula Bula, Tempe

Since my happy hour guide L gives me the benefit of her supreme knowledge of all the watering holes in Phoenix, I figured I might pass on some of that to you folks.

Today’s lesson: How to have a good time on friday at Mill Avenue without having to elbow your way through the crowds. If the bump-and-grind is your thing, head over to the Library, but if you dig live music and don’t mind checking out something new, head over to Rula Bula, an Irish pub where they have bands performing most nights. Last night it was the Keltic Cowboys, a valley group that does Celtic music along with some Reggae and yes, Rock. Grab a Pilsner, or if you prefer something darker, a Guinness and sway to the bagpipes, or tap your feet while you discreetly try to catch the rhythm of the Irish dancers. If Reggae is your thing, Walt Richardson performs there every so often. For a $2 cover charge, this is as good as live music and beer gets!
