Matthew Hahn was a career criminal. His vocation was burglary and he was either good at it, or too addicted to quit, even when he was just one conviction away from being put away for life under California’s ‘three strike’ policy. He would have gone the way of most criminals who cannot beat that itch to do just one more job, had he not burgled the safe of one John Aitken which contained a memory stick with pictures of Aitken molesting a little girl. He sent the stick to the police in an unmarked package, and later after another string of robberies that would have given him the final strike, he revealed that he had given the cops Aitken.
Prosecuters are pressing for a life sentence according to the ‘three strikes’ policy, but there has been an outpouring of support for Hahn because of his act that put Aitken behind bars.
